SIMP Report – 05 07 2016

Back to Listing

Hanover, MD, 07 May 2016

This is the latest update of the SIMP Project.

  • UEFI Support
  • Validate the SSH ciphers for EL7 versions
  • Successful Packer Image
  • Build Dependency Fixes
  • Repoclosure for Puppet Modules
  • Puppet 4 Compatibility Updates

Automated Testing

  • We’re at the 80% mark for the Jenkins automation work BUT, while giving a  presentation on our work, we discovered the the Concourse CI project. Now that Concourse provides a binary installation, we’re pivoting to use it instead of Jenkins since we believe that it will be a much more repeatable and maintable infrastructure over time. We will get to finalizing the Jenkins automation, but it is no longer an immediate priority.

Bug Fixes

  • SIMP-799 – UEFI support not working
  • SIMP 1042 – `build:auto` malforms `box_distro_release` field in packer.json
  • SIMP 1040 – simp-rake-helpers has mislabeled runtime deps
  • SIMP 1035 – bootstrap logic to give `simp` user `sudo su` is ineffective from ISO

New Features

  • SIMP-560
    • Found that not all versions of EL7 support the same SSH cipher sets so the SSH ciphers were adjusted properly per version of EL7.
  • SIMP-795
    • Created a ‘repoclosure’ for modules destined for the Puppet Forge. This means that we can now validate that our modules will not have any unmet dependencies prior to submission to the Forge.

The Near Future

  • Finalize the Concourse CI work for an integrated CI system that can be reused at any location
  • Complete the default disk encryption work
  • Finalize the first cut at the IPSec work
