The release of SIMP 6.0.0 Alpha is now available for community test and feedback. This release uses Puppet 4, which is distributed as a single RPM by the Puppet all-in-one (AIO) installer. Starting with 6.0.0, the SIMP version numbering scheme will follow Semantic Versioning 2.0.0. SIMP 6.0.0 will support all operating systems under that numbering scheme moving forward.

Here are some items of note about this release:

  • Includes the latest version of the Puppet AIO stack, along with an updated Puppet Server and Puppet DB.
  • Catalog compilations are twice as fast with SIMP 6.0.0
  • It operates more smoothly with r10k and code manager
  • With a more cohesive and understandable versioning system, SIMP 6 covers RHEL6 /7 and CentOS 6/7

This release is known to work with:

  • RHEL 7.2 x86_64
  • CentOS 7.0 1511 x86_64

The overall functionality remains unchanged. Please note that SIMP 6 will have additional breaking changes in the future but it has proven to be a stable testing ground for Puppet 4 compatibility testing.
